How does laser for acne scars work- Although pimples are not always scorching on their own, the rise, scratching and squeezing of pimples can cause permanent damage. The good news is that lasers are a treatment for acne scars that can reduce their appearance.
The two primary categories of lasers used on depressed pimples are ablative (also known as resurfacing) and non-ablative.
Ablative lasers are the most traditionally used, but also the most potentially harmful. This type of laser actually destroys the outer layers of the skin. They burn scar tissue that triggers dermal collagen to tighten. This in turn reduces the amount of trail visibility. This treatment makes the affected area very red, sensitive and painful until the skin is completely healed. And full therapy can take anywhere from several months to a year, so it is important to take care of the injured area and take measures to prevent infection. This is done with soaks, antibiotic ointment, and dressings. The skin that grows back has acne scars or wrinkles. Ultraspulsed carbon dioxide lasers and erbium YAG lasers are often used in laser resurfacing.
In contrast, nonblastic laser does not cause any damage to the outer layer of skin. Instead, they reduce acne scars by stimulating collagen growth. While ablative laser treatment needs to be performed only once, nonablative lasers need to be repeated for acne scars. Smoothbeam is one of the latest FDA approved lasers for this treatment. It targets and warms the sebaceous gland to reduce sebum, which can cause acne. When the collagen is heated, the dermis hardens and the stain is less visible.

Raised acne scars (called keloids and hypertrophic scars) require a different type of laser: pulsed dye laser (PDL). Treatment with PDL can help reduce itching and pain, reduce color, and flatten a raised scar. PDL involves the use of a focused ray of light that targets blood vessels in the skin. Light converts heat and destroys the blood vessel while leaving the surrounding skin unshaped. The laser is considered to be particularly safe as it uses yellow light which does not result in long-term skin damage. PDL treatment usually takes only a few minutes and does not require any anesthesia.

Improvement in appearance Hypertrophic scars or keloid may take multiple appointments. Although the minimum, the most common side effect of this type of treatment is. However, it usually clears within 3-10 days. Temporary pigment changes may also occur but they usually last only a few weeks. At least one month before being treated with PDL laser, you should apply sunblock on the affected area. Tanned skin actually blocks laser light and increases the likelihood of side effects. This laser is extremely rare.
